Privacy Policy

Evangel Chat is a place to practise conversations about faith. Those conversations can be personal, so this page says plainly what we keep, who else sees it, and how to get rid of it.

The short version

  • Your conversations, and the coaching written about them, are kept on your own device, not on our servers. We hold a conversation’s words only until your device has them, which is normally a few minutes, and for up to 7 days if it never does.
  • We keep your account details, and your scores and progress, so the course can pick up where you left off.
  • We do not keep recordings of your voice. In a voice session your speech is turned into text as you talk, and only the text is kept.
  • To work at all, the text of your conversations is sent to AI and speech companies listed below. Your name and email are not included.
  • You may optionally let us keep a de-identified copy of your conversations to help improve Evangel Chat. It is off unless you turn it on, and you can delete everything you have shared in one step.
  • We do not sell your information, we do not show ads, and we run no advertising or analytics trackers.
  • You can delete your account, and everything you have shared with it, whenever you like.
  • It is for people 18 and over, and it is not offered in the EU or EEA.

Who is responsible

Duston360, LLC runs Evangel Chat and is responsible for your information. Write to us at support@evangel.chat.

What we collect

Your account

Your email address, and how you can sign in: an emailed link, a passkey, or Google if you chose it. We run sign-in ourselves; no sign-in company holds your account. If you add a passkey we keep only its public half, because the private half never leaves your device. We also keep a record that you confirmed your age and accepted these policies, with the date and which edition you accepted.

What you do

The text of your conversations (what you typed or said, and what the practice partner replied) and the coaching written about each one. These are kept on your device. Our server holds them only while the conversation is happening, and until your device confirms it has its own copy. If it never does, we delete them after 7 days. What stays with your account is the numbers: your scores for each conversation, which lessons and courses you have started or finished, and your points, streaks and badges.

If you support Evangel Chat

Supporting is optional and buys nothing. The support buttons are links to a payment page that Stripe runs, so you pay on Stripe’s site and we never see your card details. In our Stripe dashboard we can see each payment: the amount, the date, and the name and email address you gave Stripe. We use that for refunds and our accounting records. We do not connect it to your account here, and nothing about your account or your practice is sent to Stripe.

Your voice

If you use voice, your speech is sent live to be turned into text. We do not record it and we do not keep it: there is no recording to play back or download. Only the resulting text becomes part of your conversation.

Technical information

Our servers log technical details of requests, such as your IP address, the time and the page requested, to keep the service secure and to fix problems. Your IP address is also used to apply rate limits, and to work out which country a visit comes from so we can apply our regional restriction. Logs are rotated automatically by size, so how long they last depends on traffic; in practice days to weeks. We do not write the text of your conversations into these logs.

In your browser

We set one cookie, and only to keep you signed in: it holds a random number and nothing about you. While you sign in with Google, a second one checks for ten minutes that the sign-in came back to you. We use no advertising or analytics trackers. Your browser also keeps, on your device, your light or dark preference and your conversations (in the browser’s own storage, which only this site can read), and if you install the app to your home screen, your device keeps a copy of some pages so it can open without a connection.

If you use your browser’s own voice input

Some browsers offer speech-to-text in a text session. That is done by your browser’s maker (for example, Chrome sends audio to Google) under their policy, not ours. We receive only the text it produces.

Sensitive things you may say

People practise these conversations about their own faith, doubts and families. We do not ask you for any of that, but your conversations may reveal it, and we treat transcripts as sensitive. You decide how much of your own life to bring into a practice conversation; the personas are fictional and you can keep details general.

How we use it

  • To run the service: have the practice partner reply, write your coaching, and show your progress.
  • To keep it safe and affordable: prevent abuse, apply daily limits, and fix faults.
  • To answer you when you write to us.
  • To meet legal obligations.

We do not use your conversations to train AI models, to advertise to you, or to build a profile for anyone else. We publish overall totals on this site (how many people practised, how many sessions, how many hours); they contain nothing about any individual.

Because we hold a conversation’s words only briefly, there is very little for anyone here to read. The one exception is the optional copies you choose to share, which the people running Evangel Chat read, as described above. Anyone with access to our database could technically open a conversation during the short time we hold it; we do so only to look into a problem you report, to deal with abuse, or where the law requires it.

Who else handles it

We do not sell your information. We use these companies to run the service, and they receive only what is needed for their part of it. Each handles it under its own terms and privacy policy, which we do not control.

  • OpenRouter, and the AI model companies it passes requests to · Always

Writing the practice partner’s replies and the coaching you receive afterwards.

Receives: The text of your conversation: what you and the practice partner said. Not your name or email address.

  • Deepgram · When you use voice

Turning your voice into text in a voice session.

Receives: Your voice, as a live audio stream, for as long as you are speaking in a voice session. We ask Deepgram not to use it to improve its own models.

  • Cloudflare · Always

Directing traffic to our servers, protecting them from attack, working out which country a visit comes from so we can apply our availability restriction, and sending the emails that sign you in.

Receives: Every request to our site, including your IP address. When you ask for a sign-in link, your email address and the email we send you.

  • Our server host · Always

The computers this service runs on.

Receives: Everything above, stored or passing through machines they operate.

  • Google Cloud Text-to-Speech or OpenAI · Only if we turn it on

Speaking the practice partner’s replies aloud, if we enable a higher-quality voice.

Receives: The text of the practice partner’s reply. Not your voice and not your name.

  • Google sign-in · Only if you sign in with Google

Signing you in, if you choose “Continue with Google” instead of an email link or a passkey.

Receives: That you are signing in to Evangel Chat. Google tells us your email address and an account number, and nothing else: we do not ask for your name, photo or contacts.

  • Stripe · Only if you choose to support us

Taking a payment, if you choose to support Evangel Chat. The support buttons are links to pages Stripe runs, so the payment happens on Stripe, not here.

Receives: Whatever you type into Stripe’s own payment page, such as card details, your name and an email address for your receipt. We send Stripe nothing from your account or your practice, and we never see your card details. We do see each payment in our Stripe dashboard (the amount, the date, and the name and email you gave Stripe), because we need that for refunds and our accounting records. We do not connect it to your account here. Stripe also keeps its own records, as the law requires.

  • LiveKit Cloud · Only if we turn it on

Carrying live audio between your browser and our voice system. By default we run this on our own server instead, in which case no outside company is involved.

Receives: Your live audio, in transit.

If you email us, your message passes through our email provider like any other email. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect someone’s safety or our rights, or as part of a sale or transfer of the service, in which case we would tell you.

How long we keep it

  • Voice recordings: never kept.
  • The words of your conversations and the coaching about them: on your device, for as long as you keep them there. On our server, only until your device has them, and never more than 7 days. Because we do not keep a copy, a lost device or a cleared browser takes them with it unless you saved a backup file.
  • Account details, scores and progress: for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account they are deleted with it.
  • Support payments: the record of a payment (the amount, the date, and the name and email you gave Stripe) is kept as long as tax and accounting law requires. Deleting your Evangel Chat account does not remove it, because it is not part of your account.
  • Conversations you chose to share: until you delete them or delete your account (see below).
  • Inactive accounts: if you do not use the service for 24 months, we delete the account.
  • Backups: we keep daily backups of our database for 14 days, so anything we delete finishes disappearing from them within 14 days.
  • Technical logs: briefly, as described above.

Helping us improve (optional)

You can choose, once, to let us keep a copy of your conversations to help improve Evangel Chat. It is off unless you turn it on (on the screen where you accept these terms, or later in your account), and it is separate from accepting them: you can use everything without it.

  • What we keep. When sharing is on, a copy of each conversation you have from then on, and the coaching written about it, after automatically removing names, email addresses, phone numbers, links and street addresses. Each copy carries no date finer than a month, no account details and no recording.
  • What we do with it. The people who run Evangel Chat read these copies to improve the lessons, the practice partners and the coaching, and test changes against them. We do not use them to train AI models, sell them, or share them with anyone outside the project.
  • It is de-identified, not anonymous. The copies are kept apart from your account, and the table that holds them does not say whose they are. But each is stored under a coded identifier that only our server can work out from your account, because that is how we find your copies in order to delete them. So we could link them back to you.
  • Automatic removal is not perfect. It catches things with a recognisable shape. It cannot understand a story, and a description of your own life can still be recognisable.
  • You can take it all back. Turn sharing off to stop, and use Delete my shared data in your account to delete every conversation you have shared. Deleting your account does the same. If we have already improved a lesson or a prompt after reading a conversation, we cannot undo that improvement. We can only delete the conversation itself.

Your choices and rights

  • Your conversations are already yours: they are on your device, and Save a backup file in your account gives you a copy you can keep anywhere.
  • Delete your account from within the app. Your account details, scores and progress go with it, and so does anything you shared to help improve the service.
  • Stop or take back sharing at any time from your account.
  • Ask about anything else we hold, or ask us to correct it: email support@evangel.chat from the address on your account and we will answer within 30 days.

Depending on where you live (California, Colorado and Virginia, for example) the law may give you rights to know, correct and delete your information and to say no to its sale or to targeted advertising. We do not sell it and we do not do targeted advertising, and we offer these choices to everyone, wherever they live. We will not treat you worse for using them.

Keeping it safe

Connections to Evangel Chat are encrypted, and access to our systems is limited to the people who need it to run the service. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise that nothing will ever go wrong. If something does affect your information, we will tell you as the law requires.

Age and place

Evangel Chat is for people who are 18 or older, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If we learn that we have, we delete it. It is not offered in the European Union or the European Economic Area, and we block access from there. Our servers and our providers’ are in the United States and other countries, and your information is processed there.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the edition and date at the top and ask you to read and accept the new one before your next session. The rules for using the service are in our Terms of Service.
