Terms of Service

These are the rules for using Evangel Chat. We have tried to write them so that you can read them once and know where you stand.

By creating an account or using the service you agree to them. If you do not, please do not use it.

Who we are

Evangel Chat is run by Duston360, LLC (“we”, “us”). You can reach us at support@evangel.chat.

Who may use it

  • You must be 18 or older. If you are not, please do not create an account. If we learn that someone under 18 has one, we will delete it.
  • Evangel Chat is not offered in the European Union or the European Economic Area, and we block access from there. Please do not try to get around that.
  • You are responsible for your account and for what happens under it. Keep your sign-in to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else has used it.

What this is, and what it is not

Evangel Chat is a place to practise conversations about faith with AI personas, then receive automated coaching on how you did.

  • The people you talk to are not real. They are artificial intelligence playing characters. They may voice views we do not hold, push back hard, be blunt, or be unfair on purpose, because real people sometimes are. Nothing a persona says is our position or a statement of fact.
  • AI makes mistakes. Replies and coaching can be wrong, including about Scripture, history and theology. Treat them as practice material and one opinion, not as authority. Check anything that matters.
  • It is not counselling, pastoral care or professional advice. The coaching is automated feedback on a practice conversation. It is not a substitute for a pastor, a counsellor, a doctor or a lawyer.
  • It is not a crisis service. If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please contact your local emergency number or a crisis line right now. In the United States you can call or text 988.

How you may use it

Please use Evangel Chat for what it is for: your own practice. You agree not to:

  • break the law, or use the service to harass, threaten or deceive real people;
  • try to make a persona produce content that is illegal, or that sexualises minors, or that is meant to help someone hurt themselves or others;
  • probe, attack or overload the service, or try to extract its hidden instructions, prompts or keys;
  • use bots, scrapers or other automated means, or work around the daily limits, age requirement or regional restriction;
  • share your account, or resell or republish the service or its material.

To keep costs under control, each account has daily limits on messages and practice sessions. If you reach one we will tell you when it resets.

What you write and say

You own what you type and say. To run the service we need your permission to handle it, so you give us a limited licence to store it, process it, show it back to you, and send it to the providers described in our Privacy Policy so that the persona can answer and you can be coached. We do not publish your conversations and we do not use them to advertise to you.

Sharing conversations to help improve Evangel Chat is optional and off unless you turn it on. If you do, you give us permission to keep and use a de-identified copy as the Privacy Policy describes, and you can withdraw it at any time, which deletes what you shared.

Please do not put other people’s private information into a conversation, and think before you share details of your own life that you would not want in a written record.

Your history is yours to keep

We do not keep your conversations. Your device does, and our servers hold them only until your device has them (and for no more than a few days if it never does). That is what lets us promise we are not holding your words, and it means a lost device, a cleared browser, or a different phone starts with no history. Saving a backup file in your account is how you protect it. If you did not, we cannot recover it for you.

What we provide

The lessons, personas, scenarios, coaching rubric and the design of the service belong to us or our licensors. You may use them for your own personal, non-commercial practice. Scripture is quoted from the Authorized (King James) Version, which is in the public domain in the United States.

Free to use, and supported by those who choose to

Evangel Chat is free. Nothing is held back behind payment and nothing is unlocked by paying. If we offer a way to help cover the cost of running it, that is voluntary and buys nothing in return. Payments are taken by Stripe on its own page, under its terms, and our Privacy Policy says what that involves. Evangel Chat is not a charity, so what you pay is not tax-deductible. Payments are generally not refundable; if you made one by mistake, write to us.

Because it is free and we run it on limited means, we may change it, limit it or stop it, and we do not promise it will always be available or error-free.

Ending your use

You can stop at any time, and you can delete your account. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, if we learn you are under 18 or in the EU/EEA, or if we must to protect the service or other people. If we do, we will tell you why where we reasonably can.

No guarantees

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that it will be accurate, uninterrupted, or suited to a particular purpose. You are responsible for your own conversations with real people and for decisions you make after practising.

Limits on our responsibility

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of US$100 or what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some places do not allow these limits, and where that is so they apply only as far as the law permits. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be brought in the state courts located in Montgomery County, Texas, or the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas. Before either of us starts a claim, please write to us and give us a chance to put it right.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The edition and date are at the top of this page. When a change matters, we will ask you to read and accept the new edition before you start your next session; using the service after that means you accept it.
